The Clifford Chambers Chalice -- not on view to the public
This chalice dates from the time of Henry VII and is one of the few hall marked pre-reformation chalices that remain in England.
The hexagonal stem has a pierced knop engraved on the six lozenge shaped nodules IESUS+. Moreover it has a most unusual feature that each of the nodules is inscribed with small but clearly visible letters that spell out the message “A POX ON V” (i.e. you). The letters are engraved upside down and it is tempting to conclude that they were done by an extreme Evangelical or puritan who objected to the parish’s retention of the old popish chalice
